Cooking and Food Shows are so Addictive: Reasons why we love it!

Every so often we have a long day at work. Whether it’s the amount of work we need to do, conflicting priorities, or just many things going wrong, a long day at work can be challenging and hard to recover from.

One of the best ways to recover after work is just to relax and watch TV -- And we start jumping around to multiple channels and before we know it, we are enjoying an hour watching a cooking and food show. But what’s the secret sauce that makes cooking and food shows so popular among Filipinos big and small, young and old? It’s not just our insatiable appetites and inner desires to all be crowned Chef de cuisine (head of the kitchen), but because we love food that brings us “home”.

There’s something comforting about watching a pair of hands (that could be yours!) prepares a dish that your grandma (or any relative) have made for you – it’s beyond relatable. Nostalgia plays a key part in the immense popularity of these shows and why they all have exploded all over Television.

The most compelling part of this phenomenon is the fact that any food and cooking show becomes popular with tons of positive comments, revealing that the familiarity of these shows is comforting and well-liked among viewers everywhere.

For example, Jamie Oliver and Jimmy Doherty cooking a Juicy pan-seared scallops, creamy mash and salty, crisp bacon – this recipe draws viewers in by reminding them of the warmth and sweetness of a childhood favorite (come on, who hates bacon?)

But what makes you spend endless hours on watching and re-watching similar shows? The answer? The food itself!

The food is prepared precisely in a very friendly and non-invasive way. Viewers are fascinated with how quick the process is! They feel all warm and fuzzy inside as they imagine themselves as a child devouring their favorite snack or now as an adult cooking food from the heart for their loved ones and in today’s busy and ever-advancing world, easy-to-do-it/less than an hour recipe is the key for success.

What’s even more interesting is the fact that Food and Cooking shows have expanded to social media platforms. Most of these platforms have come up with a designed recipe for hypnotic videos:

Again, the FOOD - how it tastes, where it comes from, what you can do with it. The chefs they put on their programs are so good at telling you what they know about food. And like most of the people who watch food and cooking show, we all love to eat! And we can be chefs, (If we really want to pursue it!)
